Active Aerodynamics for Big Pickups

General Motors Co. is seriously considering closing the openings in the grilles to see if it could have an immediate impact to the big pickups aerodynamics and gas mileage.

“You have to look at more expensive solutions more aggressively unless you are going to give up payload. And we decided we don’t want to do that,” said Rick Spina, GM’s global vehicle line executive for full-sized trucks. He estimated the cost to be around $60-$100 per vehicle.

In addition to that, Ford is also thinking of incorporating this so-called active aerodynamics for its next-generation F-series pickups. So we’re basically going to pay a hundred dollars more so we can save money from gas. Unbelievable.
